UGA’s Creature Feature
COMMITTED TO CURIOSITY
Over the past year, our friends at the University of Georgia’s Alumni Association have been following some of the UGA graduates who helped found and operate Creature Comforts.
During that time, several elements of the UGA-Creature partnership were captured and stitched together to tell the story you’ll find above. During that time, as well, a global pandemic emerged. And all the while, the cameras were rolling.
In addition to this media piece, you can find a section of the Alumni Association’s website dedicated to this partnership.
DID YOU KNOW?
While we have your attention, did you know that Creature Comforts partners with the University of Georgia on the following programs?
- We source a number of ingredients for our beers from UGA’s horticulture lab, known as UGArden.
(See Always a Pleasure and Tastes Like Flowers.) - The local honey that led to the recipe development of one of our recurring bottle releases, Common Things, came from the College of Agricultural & Environmental Science’s Honey Bee Program.
- Our Quality Lab works with the Center for Applied Isotope Studies to elevate the standards of our beer. One recent example of this research partnership is that CAIS testing helped us improve our overall yeast health by dialing in certain nutrient quantities.
- Every semester, we work with the Office of Sustainability, the Terry College of Business, and the Microbiology Department to create experiential learning opportunities through UGA internships and class projects.
- Our partnership with the Willson Center for Humanities & Arts produces arts-enrichment and educational events for the Athens community.
- Dr. Grace Bagwell-Adams, the Assistant Dean for Outreach, Engagement & Equity at UGA’s College of Public Health, sits on the Get Comfortable Advisory Council.
- Dr. Jessica Rodell, a Terry College Distinguished Chair, spent several years studying Creature Comforts’ unique approach of incorporating customers into onsite service projects. Her research was published in the Academy of Management (Fall 2020), which led to a May 2020 review by the Network for Business Sustainability as well as a January 2021 follow-up piece in the Harvard Business Review.
- Finally, we’d be remiss to overlook our strong relationship with UGA’s Corporate Relations Office as well as its Alumni Association, with whom we have partnered on countless engagements to date.
In short, there’s just something about living and working in a college town. And we are grateful for our many fruitful relationships with the University of Georgia!
