Our Favorite Moments from 2022

In the first week in the new year we wanted to reflect back on our favorite memories and milestones from 2022. We’re so grateful to all of you who’ve joined us on our journey along the way and shared in these moments with us.

This past year was a season of growth and excitement here at Creature Comforts! Here’s a few of our favorite moments from 2022.

Good Gold Beer

Classic City Lager received a gold medal at the 2022 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) competition! During the festival’s awards ceremony, we were awarded the top honor in the American Pilsener category for Classic City Lager, our year-round, easy-drinking lager. Our goal with Classic City Lager has always been to provide the kind of straightforward beer that you would be proud to call your local lager. This achievement highlights the people who work tirelessly to produce a quality beverage made for any occasion. So, to everyone who played a part in getting us here, thank you – you turned Good Cold Beer into Good Gold Beer!

TRUE Certified at Southern Mill

In early 2022, our production facility at Southern Mill received TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Silver Level Certification for our zero waste efforts. Administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), TRUE helps facilities measure, improve, and recognize zero waste performance by encouraging the adoption of sustainable waste management and reduction practices, which contribute to positive environmental, health, and economic outcomes.  Southern Mill achieved a 99.8% diversion rate, with less than one percent of waste material generated in our operations heading to a landfill. Out of 5 million pounds of waste material generated, slightly over 9,000 pounds went to landfills. Our sustainability program exists to examine and understand these negative externalities and develop strategies and programs to mitigate them. Zero Waste contributes to our sustainability goals by minimizing the waste we send to our local landfill – meaning that landfill will last longer and serve more citizens.

Expanding Over State Lines

Over the last year we had the opportunity to start sharing Creature Comforts with new communities in the Southeast! We celebrated our second out-of-state expansion with the addition of Nashville in July and launched Columbia, Chattanooga, and Greenville in September. We are thrilled to be able to bring our beer to new places and hope to further our purpose of fostering human connection and sharing our piece of the craft beer world with new audiences.

Invested Back in Our Communities

Did you know 1% of the sales from all Creature Comforts beer goes back into our community through our impact programs? This year we began specifically supporting 3rd grade literacy within the Clarke County School District through our Get Comfortable program. So, any time you purchase our beer you’re contributing to this most pressing need in the Athens community!

We believe every company should have a plan to support the city they love. For us, this plan takes the form of our community initiatives, Get Comfortable and Brew For One, alongside our other efforts like our sustainability practices, partnership with the Giving Kitchen, involvement in the Brewer’s Association, and more!

What’s Next?

We’re dreaming even bigger for the coming years! For the near future we’re focused on getting closer every day to the opening of our Los Angeles (DTLA) brewery and taproom. Check out the progress and get ready for Creature Comforts on the West Coast soon!
