POSITION PURPOSE

The Packaging Manager helps people navigate the beautiful and complex world of beer through the direction and strategy of Creature Comfort Brewing Company’s packaging department and staff.

PACKAGING MANAGER PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES

Increase overall packaging efficiency from 84% – 90% by Dec. 31st, 2021.

  • Researches, recommends, and manages the implementation of improvements and investments for packaging processes, such as
      • consistent and repeatable line start-up
      • run and breakdown processes resulting in reducing beer and raw materials loss, etc.

Reduce Packaging Co2 usage by 2lbs before year-end.

  • Develops an expert level of knowledge of Brite beer and packaging equipment, including their maintenance, sanitation, and related processes.
  • Increase batch yields 2% by Dec 31st, 2021.
  • Manages available budgetary resources assigned to Packaging Department.
  • Researches, recommends, and manages sourcing, installation, and utilization of equipment upgrades.

Reduce material loss 2% by Dec 31st, 2021.

Fully cross-trained packaging staff by Dec. 31st, 2021.

  • Manages and keeps employees motivated for multiple shifts and locations with changing seasonal demands and package types.

Develop/Revise five SOP’s/PM’s monthly.

  • Maintains SOPs and reports statistics.
  • Adheres to and enforces all applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations regarding health and safety.
  • Discuss new leadership tools with your team weekly.
  • Leads the hiring, training, and performance planning/evaluation for Packaging Department.
  • Review new leadership tools, allowing for collaborative conversations.
  • Reduce Packaging related QA complaints 5% by Dec. 31st, 2021.
  • Manages, supports, and achieves CCBC’s objectives by meeting production deadlines for quality packaged beer with efficient order fulfillment and minimal downtime.

    • flavor profiles
    • TPO/Carb levels
    • seam/package integrity

POSITION PURPOSE

The Quality Lab Specialist helps people navigate the beautiful and complex world of beer by ensuring regular quality checks are performed timely and efficiently and that other departments are fully supported.

QUALITY LAB SPECIALIST OUTCOMES

I. QUALITY PEOPLE

  • Support Intradepartmental Relations
    • All reagents and samples are properly labeled and stored
    • Long-term experiment needs are communicated and documented in the electronic lab notebook (ELN)
    • Communicate with other QLSs on daily/weekly needs for rotation changes
    • Engage in company leadership training as required and implement any tools reviewed
  • Support Interdepartmental Relations
    • Review active requests from other departments, act on them, and use clear communication to resolve any needed information
    • Maintain a non-blame culture and communication channel with other departments
    • Communicate market release updates and sensory releases when pertinent information is available
  • Invest in People
    • Lead interdepartmental SOP development and training
    • Maintain industry connections and regularly interact with non-CCBC employees
    • Engage with webinars, conferences, and publications to further industry knowledge and relationships

II. QUALITY PRODUCTS

  • Analytical Testing
    • Gravity testing is completed and sent to the database each morning
    • GC/ECD VDK samples are completed and sent to the database each morning
    • All other analytical tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Microbiological Testing
    • All micro samples are collected aseptically at designated time points and tested on the proper media
    • Yeast samples are analyzed and actionable data relayed to the brewing and cellar teams
    • Micro testing results are recorded properly, and any needed follow-up actions are taken
  • Sensory Testing
    • Ensure that every batch of finished, carbonated beer is placed on panel at the earliest availability
    • Samples that fail sensory panel are properly escalated through the lab response plan
    • Panel results are analyzed and relevant information relayed to stakeholders on the same day that sensory panel is performed
  • Basic lab function
    • Lab glassware and instruments are cleaned by the end of the day
    • Buffers, micro plates, and reagents are replenished as needed
    • Work areas are kept clean and functional

III. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

  • Participate in sensory training and become an official CCBC panelist
  • Interact with the SQL database and assist with control chart implementation
  • Improve data collection, statistical analysis, and data visualization
  • Design and implement long-term research projects
  • Seek out and utilize tools from professional organizations including ASBC, MBAA, BA, and EBC

POSITION PURPOSE

The Cellar Specialist supports CCBC in helping people navigate the beautiful & complex world of beer by executing at a high level of quality and contributing to a culture of safety as part of the Southern Mill Cellar Team.

ACTIVITIES & OUTCOMES

  1. Developing foundational knowledge of key cellar tasks:
    • Gravities, tank actions, crash times.
      • Recording brand data and tank status.
      • Pulling sample from FV.
      • Prepping sample for Anton Parr 4500.
      • Verifying stability.
      • Prepping and clearing VDK samples.
      • Changing temp on glycol control panel for tank actions/crashing beers
    • Carbing and releasing beers for packaging.
      • Performing carbonation readings with IDGM.
      • Recording carbonation readings on tank hanger
    • DH, fruit and adjunt additions.
      • Selecting correct hop type, varietal, and weight for DH additions.
      • Purging hop cannon.
      • Breakdown of hop cannon post DH.
      • Purging recirc pump.
      • Setting up recirc and documenting recirc start and end times.
      • Understanding of sanitary fruit addition.
      • Recording all raw ingredients into data app
    • Yeast handling
      • Harvesting into kegs/brink.
      • Taking sample for quality analysis.
      • Weighing kegs and label appropriately.

Part-time Warehouse Assistant

POSITION PURPOSE

The Packaging Specialists supports CCBC in helping people navigate the beautiful & complex world of beer by executing at a high level of quality and contributing to a culture of safety as part of the Packaging Team.

ACTIVITIES & OUTCOMES

  • Walk/inspect warehouse area and cooler every morning and afternoon.
    • Check for any potential safety hazards and address them and notify a manager immediately of any hazards.
  • Inspect power equipment (e.g., electric forklifts) every morning before operating and check off the checklist located on each piece of power equipment. (Check for damage, leaking fluids, wear and battery level.) Notify warehouse manager or maintenance of any issues.
  • Get appropriate packing list for that day and begin staging product that is destined to ship out that morning.
  • Load and unload distribution trucks in a timely manner each morning. This will range from 1-2 trucks each morning depending on the season.
  • Organize and optimize cooler space using proper “FIFO” (First In, First Out) standards after each distribution truck has been loaded.
  • Occasionally assist with the unloading of raw materials (empty cans, cartons, and various other raw materials) and verify the shipment is correct with the warehouse manager.
    • Check packing lists, verify lot #’s and write lot #’s on product in large marker all while practicing “FIFO” standards.
  • Move received goods after they have been checked in to their proper locations and notify appropriate departments.
  • After trucks are loaded and cooler has been reorganized practice good housekeeping measures before leaving for the day. (e.g., Sweeping, dusting and general organization of warehouse.)

POSITION PURPOSE 

To help Creature Comforts navigate its business by interpreting data, information and insight that helps create action.

BUSINESS ANALYST PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES  

Business Analytics and Reporting 

  • Compile executive summary reporting each month and distribute synopsis to leadership. 
    • Extract and clean centralized data across Production, Tasting Room and Commercial Sales. 
    • Evaluate and direct insight from previous month and year-to-date performance for each department. 
  • Track and evaluate Freshness and Distributor Inventory to maintain target levels within a 25% margin. 
    • Extract data from our Route Accounting software and ancillary applications to append into historical data set. 
    • Monitor Freshness and Distributor Inventory via Power BI 
    • Communicate trends and suggest action when brands diverge from targeted benchmarks. 
  • Utilize Excel, Power BI and other analytical platforms to provide dynamic and responsive reporting that supports the inquiries of departments. 
    • Ask questions, understand the problem, and support inquiries with data resources. 

Production Analysis 

  • Collaborate with production to coordinate brew size and packaging mix for limited release brands that deplete within 2 weeks of target selling window. 
    • Meet with Snow Tire team to coordinate market and Tasting Room needs. 
    • Create a packaging mix and communicate with Brand Development on next steps. 
  • Optimize weekly production volumes that balance all package types evenly across daily sales inventory. 
    • Use linear optimization models to balance inventory levels based on resource constraints.
    • Analyze changes in market rate of sale to call out future risk to inventory stability. 

Commercial Sales Analysis 

  • Coordinate recommendations for seasonal/rotational brands across all relevant parties (Commercial Sales Team, Production, Distributor) that deplete within 2 weeks of target selling window. 
    • Analyze historical sales trends. 
    • Apply current changes to consumer behavior and market trends. 
    • Evaluate yield performance to coordinate and brew plan with production. 
  • Hold monthly department meeting to highlight trends across different commercial sales channels.  
    • Analyze the market under the following KPIs: 
      • Freshness 
      • Sales and Distribution 
      • Brand Performance 
      • Retailer Performance 
    • Receive feedback from Commerical Sales Team on their current and upcoming trends/activation.
