The Buni is back!
We are excited to announce that Koko Buni is set to return this November. The beer will be available on draft and in 12oz cans.
Koko Buni is our milk porter (6.8%) brewed with toasted coconut, cocoa nibs, coffee and vanilla. The flavors are rich and velvety – perfect for cooler days and evenings. As with most of our brews, a key characteristic of Koko Buni is balance in flavor. None of the flavors are overpowering or fatiguing on the palate.
“We decided not to be traditional with the beer and add some ingredients that play well with the already roasty and chocolatey flavors of darker beers,” says Co-Founder and Head Brewer David Stein. “The result is a decadent porter, yet balanced and not over the top. Each flavor has room to individually interact with your palate, which is always a challenge as a brewer when using so many ingredients.”
We sourced both the coffee and cocoa nibs locally. The coffee is an Ethiopian blend from 1000 Faces Coffee and the cocoa nibs are Ecuadorian from local bean-to-bar chocolatier, Condor Chocolates. In addition, Condor Chocolates created a Koko Buni chocolate bar incorporating 1000 Faces coffee to accompany the beer. 1000 Faces Coffee will also offer the coffee used in the brew as a limited edition Koko Buni coffee blend. Partial proceeds from the chocolate and coffee will go towards local nonprofits through the brewery’s Get Comfortable fund & will be available for our Koko Buni Kick Off tour on 11/22!
We are also bringing back the label we worked on with Athens artist David Hale. The design won CNBC’s Battle of the Beer Labels competition in April 2016. Hale also designed the wrapper for the limited edition Koko Buni chocolate bar!
The coconut and Ethiopian coffee used in making the beer inspired its name. “Koko” translates to coconut in Papmiento, a language commonly used in the Caribbean. “Buni” is derived from the word for coffee in Amharic, the primary language found in Ethiopia.
Koko Buni will be available on draft and in cans in the Athens and Atlanta markets in late November. Be sure to join us in the Tasting Room on 11/22 for the Koko Buni Kick Off tour to taste the beer for the first time this season! We will be pouring some amazing beers (including Koko Buni of course), cans will be available onsite around the end of November/beginning of December, we’ll have some special, limited edition Koko Buni glassware available & special beers available (Oh, Fantastic Then! & Reclaimed Rise) to go as souvenirs for the tour!
And be sure to stay tuned for… Double Koko Buni!
